Vision on a Limpid Night

Do witness with solemnity,
With breathing, quick intensity,
How, plummeting, unparalleled,
Through atmosphere magnificent
And vast, unbounded entropy,
A star her phocine mother seeks
To gentle lunar fragrance greet.
Observe: through dark terrain she goes—
Traversing traveler, stepping through
The sordid fields that faintly glow,
The plains devoid of earthly hue.
Observe the forging of her armor—
The gleaning of a violet haze,
To ornament the breastplate planetary,
A war against the shadows wage.
So see our fiery heroine,
Who sailing, parts a sea of stars,
And sprinting, lights a cosmic forest,
The sirens singing astral song,
The clearings holding dryad dances,
The shadow creatures looming tall.
Our Lupine woman and her hounds,
The figures running briskly on—
The silver flames are growing near,
And nipping at her royal brow.
