Perks of Being Russian

Being a slavic kid in America is quite the unique experience. A lot of the time you just look like a basic white kid, but knowing a different culture and language sometimes feels like a superpower. The different foods, language, and traditions feel like a somewhat secret society. When you see someone with a slavic sounding name, you immediately feel a connection even though you don’t really know each other. With lots of my friends, the initial introduction was “Ты говоришь по-русски?” “Да!” and from there the conversation just flows. There are so many other insanely cool things about being slavic, like how many other people can say “I come from the ‘great mother Russia’” in a completely accurate accent? Moral of the story is, being an immigrant from Eastern Europe is cool. I’m proud to be slavic and I’m sure many others are too.
